sunshine dances through the window,
tugging you to come out to play
robin egg sky holds out it’s hand,
clouds winking down at you
so you throw off the light grey covers,
jam on old cracked black sandals
whirl out the door because the breeze
is eagerly calling your name
it takes everything in you not to
run wild through the streets
so you lay down and give the grass
a great big hug of gratitude
because you are here, vibrant and alive
which wasn’t really guaranteed for awhile
and although there is pain, today there
is sunshine and the trees, and that is enough
